Board of Directors/Staff

Michael Bomberger, Executive Director

A native of Pennsylvania, Michael Bomberger has degrees in forestry and business management, and brings a unique blend of conservation and business experience to the Council.

A lifelong conservationist, Michael began his career as a backcountry research ranger in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Wind River, Washington, and has been actively engaged in land protection and implementing other conservation strategies.

Active in business, Michael has performed an array of real estate advisory services, including market analysis and feasibility studies, and worked with premier companies such as American Tower, AT&T, Golden Bear Golf, Gulf Oil, Exxon, IBM, Ogden Entertainment, Sprint and Xerox. His political and public policy background spans local, state and federal government.

Michael's commitment to community is more than evident in how he spends his time and energy. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Los Gatos Community Foundation, serving as Vice President, the Foundation's first Grants' Chairman, and on the Executive Board for seven years. He was member of the Town of Los Gatos Parks Commission for eight years, serving as Chairman and on its Budget and Trails and Bikeways Committees.

From their first home in Los Gatos, he and his wife Jean enjoyed the principles of smart growth first hand, as they were able to walk to several parks, three museums, a grocery store, library, church, barber shop, pharmacy, post office, restaurants, a revitalized movie theater and farmers market.

Drawing on this diverse background, Michael brings a special ability to understand the needs of conservation, commerce and community. From the initial master planning and concept presentation through site selection, lease negotiation, design, development, and construction, he has created significant bottom-line results for all parties, most often in a high-profile, public venue. He has lectured at universities, conferences and workshops, is often sought after for presentations before commissions, councils, and boards and interacts extensively in building coalitions between private and public sector entities, always seeking to transform global best practices into local solutions.

Michael climbs trails and trials, cultivates friends and gardens alike, lives his faith, and sees beauty everywhere. He is not afraid to diplomatically ask the toughest questions.

Michael is married to the former Jean Hoffmann, and has nine children.
