Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy.

This Web site is provided by the Silicon Valley Conservation Council as an educational and informational service, and as a means of allowing our constituency to become more involved in our mission. When you browse the Council's Web site, you are able to do so anonymously. Generally, we don't collect personal information when you browse - not even your email address. Your browser, however, does automatically tell us the type of computer and operating system you are using.

When you volunteer information to us, whether to request information, join our mailing list, or perhaps to offer a contribution, we use it solely for the purposes for which it was provided. Our policy is not to share personally identifiable information with third parties, unless required by law, or unless explicitly requested by you. We recognize that your information is valuable and we take all reasonable measures to protect your information while it is in our care.

This statement explains our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way the information you provide us is collected and used. For easy and direct access, we provide a link to this statement from our home page and all other pages of the site.

"Cookies"

Like many websites, the Council website uses "cookie" technology. When you first connect to our site, the cookie identifies your browser with a unique, random number. Cookies help us understand which parts of our websites are the most popular, where our visitors are going, and how long they spend there. We use cookies to study traffic patterns on our site so we can make the site even better for you.

Online Donations

The Council collects the following information through our secure online financial-transaction pages: name, address, e-mail address, phone number, and credit card information. This personally identifiable information is used to acknowledge receipt of your donation for tax purposes and to include you on the Council's mailing list if you choose to join it.

Mailing List

The Council provides a separate online "contact" form to join our mailing list. The information we collect includes: name, address, e-mail address, and phone number. This information is securely stored internally and accessed only when we correspond with our mailing list periodically during the year, either via e-mail or regular mail.

Please contact us directly by email, telephone, or regular mail if at any time you wish to be removed from the mailing list or if you would like to correct or change the personal information you have previously provided. To protect your privacy and security, we will take certain steps to verify your identity before granting access to your information or making corrections. Callers will be asked specific questions, including full name, address, phone number, and, if applicable, credit card numbers and/or expiration date, in order to verify their identity and protect the privacy of the Council's donors and members of its mailing list.

Links to Other Web Sites

The Council's site includes links, some temporary and some permanent, to other Web sites. We are not responsible for the privacy and security practices of any other Web site or the nature of the content contained therein.

Children's Privacy

We take children's privacy seriously.

The Council does not seek to collect personal information about children through its Web site. If we become aware that a person submitting personal information to us through any part of our Web site is a child, we delete the information as soon as we discover it and do not use it for any purpose, nor do we disclose it to third parties. Since we do not seek to collect any personal information about children, and we delete any information collected inadvertently as soon as we discover that a child has submitted it, we typically retain no information about children that could be reviewed or deleted. However, if a parent requests review or deletion of information about their child before we have discovered and deleted the information, then we will of course honor that request.

Changes to This Policy

In the event that the Council decides to alter its privacy policy, the changes will be added directly to this statement.
